Virtual Reality: Sensics headset with 2,880 x 1,600 pixels

Sensics has unveiled a new VR headset designed for gaming centers with large multiplayer VR stations such as Zero Latency singularity. It therefore differs in some details of head-mounted displays intended for end users. The device referred to in the shop as 'Goggles for Public VR' costs approximately 2,600 US dollars before taxes as a preliminary model.

The VR headset is part of OSVR (Open Source Virtual Reality), since Sensics is one of the founders besides Razer. The head-mounted display is similar to the Hacker Dev Kit 2 (HDK2), and the two OLED panels are the same: they solve with 2160 x 1200 pixels at 90 Hz and 100 degrees of vertical viewing – like HTC's Vive and Oculus' Rift. The headset is optionally available with two LCDs with 90 Hz and 2,880 x 1,600 pixels, 1,440 x 1,600 instead of 1,080 x 1,200 pixels per eye. Sensics promotes a clearer presentation (PDF).

Further differences to consumer devices are the load capacity and hygiene. The cable is detachable, the same applies to the foam that sits on the face. Obendrein two small fans are used for cooling, which should reduce or prevent fogging of the lenses by heat development. Behind the front panel, a Leap Motion can be used for hand tracking, if the customer so desires. The VR headset must be combined with a positional tracking system. Zero Latency uses notebook backpacks and a wireless design.

The 'Goggles for Public VR' are currently being delivered in limited quantities. Larger quantities will be available later in the year.
