US-wide bank – Scheinkonten scandal at Wells Fargo much bigger than expected News

Thursday, August 31st, 2017 | Economy

An investigation has shown that about 3.5 million customer accounts could have been opened unauthorized, the money house said on Thursday. Previously, Wells Fargo had reported the figure at 2.1 million. "We apologize to all those who have suffered damage from unsustainable sales practices," said Bankchef Tim Sloan. The company will provide an additional 2.8 million dollars to compensate affected customers.
Wells Fargo had granted around a year ago that employees had established accounts that had not been approved by customers for years. Many layoffs followed, including John Stumpf, a long-term banker, taking his hat – as well as the millions of US authorities and comparisons with journalists. The case has not expired – US wardens continue to investigate. The latest survey, which was completed by 2009, involved significantly more business areas than before. Due to dubious insurance surcharges for car loans, Wells Fargo was once again in a state of emergency.
