(cafetheology.org) – The first race of Formula 1 after the summer break has brought the TV stations different odds. While the number of spectators at the Grand Prix of Belgium in Spa-Francorchamps at RTL was roughly the same as last year, the figures at ORF and pay-TV broadcaster Sky went upwards. At RTL the race was on average 4, 59 million viewers. This is slightly less than the 4.66 million in the previous year. However, the market share of 31.8 percent was somewhat higher than before twelve months (31.3 percent). In the 2017 season, the Belgian Grand Prix ranks only eighth in terms of the number of spectators at the Klner transmitter. Compared to the Hungarian Grand Prix before the summer break, 710,000 spectators were less likely to compete. The Austrian TV station ORF recorded a positive development. An average of 452,000 people were seen there, which corresponds to a market share of 36 per cent. Last year, the race at Spa had attracted 357,000 spectators, about a quarter less than one this year. The rise in the pay-TV channel Sky was more pronounced. According to the branch service 'dwdl.de', the number of viewers was 580,000, which was about 200,000 more than in the previous year. The market share was 7.8 percent. This would be a record for this season for Sky.
