Trump sends Richard Grenell as ambassador to Berlin

Saturday, September 2nd, 2017 | World News

The former foreign policy commentator Richard Grenell will be the new US ambassador in Germany as the White House announced on Friday (local time) in Washington.

Grenell was from 2001 to 2008 under George W. Bush spokesman of the USA at the United Nations in New York. In 2010 the PR specialist founded a consulting company. Just a few days ago, after a meeting with President Donald Trump, Grenell had taken a photo of the meeting on the Internet and wrote: "Thank you, Mr. President."

The 50-year-old Grenell is one of the first and strongest supporters of the foreign policy course of Donald Trump. Born in the state of Michigan, Grenell often appears with conservative Fox News and his contributions have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Politico, CBS News and CNN.

Criticism from one's own party
In the ranks of the conservative Republicans, Grenel was strongly under pressure in 2012 as a foreign and security policy spokesman for Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, having been openly gay for 14 years. He had to clear the post because of the pressure of the Evangikalen. In the past, Grenell has repeatedly expressed his opinion on the same-sex marriage and also had to put criticism from his own party.

The office of the US Ambassador in Berlin has been orphaned on 20 January since the departure of John Emerson with the Trumps office. The business is currently being represented by Kent Logsdon. Diplomats in Germany and the USA had hoped for a rapid occupation of the post in order to improve the diplomatic wire between the two states again.
