Trial of a suspected Turkish spy begins

The trial against a suspected Turkish spy begins today before the Oberlandesgericht in Hamburg. The 32-year-old is accused of secret-service activities against the federal government.

He was commissioned by Turkish secret service MIT to investigate the Kurdish scene in Germany. It was mainly a Kurdish politician in Bremen. The accused had received some 30,000 euros from his clients. The 32-year-old had been arrested in Hamburg in the middle of December 2016 and has been in detention since then.

The Hanseatic Oberlandesgericht in Hamburg is also responsible for state protection proceedings for Bremen as well as Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
