Transgenders may stay in the US Army

Thursday, August 31st, 2017 | World News

Transgenders may remain in the US Army: Pentagon chief Jim Mattis announced on Tuesday in Washington. The decision of the US defense minister applies to all transgender who are already serving in the armed forces.

A commission of experts is to deal with the presidential arrest of President Donald Trump. Trump had instructed the Ministry of Defense on Friday not to include any transgender in the country's armed forces.

The recruitment stop should enter into force on 23 March 2018. In a tweet in July, Trump wrote on the grounds that the army should not be burdened with the "enormous medical costs", as well as the unrest caused by the inclusion of transgender.

Transgender ban should be abolished on 1 July
Mattis commissioned an expert group in the Ministry of Defense to test Trumps' instructions. They should decide "what is best for the military strength of the military."

In the US Army, a transgender ban has already been applied. However, Trumps predecessor Barack Obama had been ordered to repeal this ban with effect from 1 July this year. The Pentagon had temporarily suspended this date on pressure trumps.

Transgender is an umbrella term for people who are born in the wrong body as well as for those who do not belong to a clear gender. Among the 1.3 million active members of the US armed forces, there are estimated to be between a thousand and 15,000 transgenders.
