Terror group wanted to break up Sagrada Familia

A member of the terrorist cell in Spain unpacked after his arrest. He confessed that the group originally wanted to blow up the world-famous Sagrada Familia Basilica and other Barcelona landmarks.

The 21-year-old Mohamed Houli Chemlal told the investigators in Madrid, reported the newspaper "El Mundo", citing judicial circles. The terrorists were planning the attacks in a house in the city of Alcanar, where they had collected more than a hundred butane bottles.

Complicated suspect injured in explosion
When an unintentional explosion took place in the bomb workshop last Wednesday, they went to an alternative plan – the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils, where 15 people died. Chemlal had been injured in the explosion in Alcanar.

The head of the group, Imam Abdelbaki Es Satty was killed by another terrorist in the explosion. Two of the suspects accused Es Satty of being the ideological leader of the group. In addition, the Imam had planned to die for the planned explosives.

Survivors are to remain in custody
The public prosecutor's office claimed that the four suspects who were the first to testify in court. It should take months, if not years, to come to a process. The four were the only survivors of the twelve-person extremist cell.

In addition to Chemlal, Driss Oukabir, Mohammed Aallaa and Salh El Karib were presented. Chemlal is a Spaniard from the Spanish North African exclave Melilla. The other three suspects are Moroccans.

  Nearly all lived in the same city
Most of them lived in the small town of Ripoll, where Es Satty was an Imam. The 28-year-old Driss Oukabir is an older brother of 17-year-old Moussa Oukabir, who was involved in the car attack in Cambrils and was shot by the police with four other suspected members of the terrorist cell.

The 27-year-old Aallaa is the owner of the Audi, which was used in the attack in Cambrils. El Karib, a friend of Driss Oukabir, runs a call shop in Ripoll for cheap international calls. He is supposed to be 34 years old.

On Monday, officials in Subirats, near Barcelona, ​​had shot Younes Abouyaaquoub, who was accused as the main perpetrator. The 22-year-old was supposed to have controlled the vans, which had driven dozens of passers-by on the Las Ramblas promenade. 13 people died. On his flight, Abouyaaquoub took another man to come to his car.
