Streaming: Apple TV with 4K and HDR support presented

Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 | Gadgets

With considerable delay, Apple is entering the market for 4K video streaming. Suppliers like Amazon or Nvidia have 4K-enabled devices already several years in the assortment. With the introduction of the Apple TV 4K, corresponding content is promised in the iTunes Store.

The streaming box supports 4K resolutions and dominates HDR 10 as well as DolbyVision to display content with as good picture quality as possible. An image rate of 60 fps is achieved. The new Apple TV model runs with the A10X processor, which is also used in the iPad Pro. Together with 3 GB of memory, it should always work fast and smoothly.
For the comparison: In the Apple TV model without 4K support plug the A8 chip and 2 GB of memory.
The new model is also available in two memory sizes: either with 32 GB of flash memory or with 64 GB of flash memory.
Furthermore no appointment for Amazon app
To the sales start, Apple promised 4K content only for iTunes. These should be offered at the same price as full HD content. Only later this year, Netflix will also play content on the Apple device in 4K resolution, as well as Amazons prime video service, which has been promised for Apple TV since June 2017 without an appointment, but has not appeared so far. Apple also called no date for the release of the Amazon Prime video app.

Apple TV 4K will be released on September 22, 2017. Pre-orders will take Apple from 15 September. The device with 32 GB costs 200 Euro. The model with 64 GB is sold for 220 Euro. The 64-Gbyte variant is thus 10 euros cheaper, as the Apple TV was the fourth generation without 4K support so far.

Old Apple TV continues to be offered
The fourth-generation Apple TV continues to be offered at a reduced price and only with 32 GB of memory. Instead of 180 euros it costs 160 euros.
On the German market the Apple TV so far played only a subordinate role. The comparatively high price and possibly the previous lack of Amazons prime video app have made sure that the device has sold only slowly.
Apple itself does not call sales for Germany, but industry insiders assume that few Apple TV devices are in German households. The fire-TV-devices from Amazon, which repeatedly set up new sales records and are much cheaper, are clearly more widespread. Amazons Fire TV with 4K support costs only half as much as the new Apple TV 4K.
