Six injured after stabbing at the Alexanderplatz in Berlin

Saturday, September 9th, 2017 | World News

Two groups of youths fought with fists and knives at Alexanderplatz in Berlin. Among the injured is also a clearly uninvolved child.

As the police reported, two larger groups of knifes and a bottle had broken loose in the night to Saturday. Six people were injured, including the 13-year-old boy who was probably uninvolved. An 18-year-old had to be operated after a puncture injury on the back. On Saturday, however, he was out of danger.

According to the police, between a 10-man and a 20-man group, the brawl came at around 0.30. The reasons for this were initially unclear. Police officers arrested eight suspects. In a 23-year-old and a 15-year-old, knives were found. As well as six accused aged between 16 and 27, they were sent to a commissariat. The suspects should be heard on Saturday.

Four men suffered cuts and blows on the hands and upper limbs, which were treated on an outpatient basis. The 13-year-old, who was reportedly "accidentally caught between the fronts", was slightly injured and out-patient.

Crime spot in Berlin
On the Alexanderplatz in Berlin's Mitte district, there are regular beatings, attacks and thefts. Last year, the police registered 7820 criminal offenses, of which, however, the majority were baggage and shop thefts. This year, the numbers dropped somewhat. A police station will be on the square by December, a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday. The Berlin police and the federal police should be present around the clock.
