Politics – Iceland's government is breaking – new elections requested News

Saturday, September 16th, 2017 | Economy

Minister President Bjarni Benediktsson called for a new vote on Friday after one of the three coalition parties had withdrawn from the government because of a scandal surrounding Benedict's father. As an appointment he spoke out for November. "We have lost the majority, and I see nothing that suggests we can recover them," said Benediktsson. The Independence Party also called for new elections following the collapse of the coalition.
The party "Bright Future" justified its withdrawal with a breach of confidence after the party Benedict's allegedly tried to cover up a scandal for his father. The predecessor government had overthrown the Panama Papers in 2016 due to the tax fraud.
The latest scandal is about a letter that Benedict's father has written. By the letter, he wanted to have the criminal record of an old friend who had been convicted of child abuse to be extinguished. The Ministry of Justice initially refused to reveal who had written the letter, and did not press for a parliamentary committee.
