More than 600 bone remains in Massengrab

Thursday, August 17th, 2017 | World News

A tip from an imprisoned drug trafficker in Mexico led to a mass grave with more than 600 remains of human bones. The bone remnants are now to be completely screened and then DNA examinations are carried out.

In northern Mexico, more than 600 remains of human bones have been discovered in a mass grave. The mass grave was found near Tijuana not far from the border with the US after a tip by an imprisoned drug trafficker, as reported by an association for missing in the Mexican region of Baja California on Wednesday. Therefore, it would take at least a month for experts to completely see the bone remains in the mass grave. Afterwards, DNA investigations are to take place in Mexico City.

The gruesome find was made in the same area where the mass grave of Santiago Meza was found in 2009. He had, at the order of drug traffickers, dissolved the bodies in chemicals and buried the remains in the mass grave. He had admitted that he had about 300 corpses vanished.

In the Mexican drug war, more than 186,000 people have been killed since 2006, while around 30,000 more are missing. According to experts, following the capture of the country's most important drug buffs, a number of smaller gangs emerged which, in addition to drug trafficking, also discovered robbery, kidnapping and blackmail as business units.
