According to a newspaper, finance minister Jens Spahn (CDU) wants to separate from his controversial participation in a start-up company for tax-clarification software.

He had decided to sell his shares, he told the Süddeutsche Zeitung. "I'm looking for a buyer." If this was found, he would also pay back the state subsidy he had received for the investment.

According to Spahn, Spahn had invested 15,000 euros in the company. According to "Süddeutscher Zeitung", he confirmed on Monday, on request, to have applied for the usual state subsidy. Afterwards, so-called "business angels" who, like Spahn, invest private money in start-ups, receive 20 percent of the total sum.

SPD Secretary General called for resignation or abandonment of the participation
Spahn collected 3,000 euros. The CDU politician had been criticized for participating in a company belonging to an industry for which he is responsible in the Ministry of Finance.

SPD general secretary Hubertus Heil had demanded in the "Bild am Sonntag", Spahn should either give up the participation or withdraw from his post in the ministry. "Just as a secretary of state in the Ministry of Defense should not participate in armaments companies, a secretary of state should privately leave the fingers of the financial sector," said Heil.
