Investigations against AfD-Vice-Gauland because of incitement

Sunday, September 10th, 2017 | World News

After the announcement against AfD top candidate Alexander Gauland because of incitement to the people, the public prosecutor Mühlhausen has now taken the investigation. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the authority.

The reason for the investigations are Gauland's controversial statements about the integration commissioner of the federal government, Aydan Özoguz (SPD). Gauland himself knew by Sunday evening, according to own data nothing from the investigations.

Gauland, who is also the party leader of the Brandenburger AfD and the vice-chancellor of the federal party, had spoken of the "disposal" of Özoguz in Anatolia during an election campaign in Thuringia. Several advertisements were then received at the Mühlhausen Public Prosecutor's office, said the official speaker – among other things, from the former Federal President Thomas Fischer.

Landtag has not yet vetoed
Contrary to many federal states, deputies in Brandenburg are not automatically protected against investigations. At the request of the Landtag, however, "any prosecution against a deputy, any imprisonment and any other restriction of his personal liberty" shall be suspended if the parliamentary work of the Landtag is impaired, the Constitution states. So far the Landtag has not vetoed, said the spokesman.

Gauland said he had not dealt with the ads against his person. He could not imagine a negative result of the investigations. "I have not called for anything in any way."
