The record hurricane "Irma" has also hit the private island of British billionaire Richard Branson in the Caribbean. The island of Necker was "completely devastated," the founder of the airline "Virgin".

The cyclone had swept away "whole houses", wrote Branson on Thursday in a blog post. The concrete cellar, in which he sought shelter, had, however, "lamented".

"Never seen anything like this"
"I've never seen anything like this hurricane," Branson wrote. The island of Necker, which belongs to the British Virgin Islands, was "completely devastated". Outside the shelter, doors had been whirled through the air, he was transmitting his messages with a satellite telephone, all other means of communication were useless.
