Hungary does not want to change refugee policy

Friday, September 8th, 2017 | World News

The Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, sees no reason to change anything about the refugee policy of Hungary. He noted the judgment of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) on the distribution of asylum seekers, said the right-wing national politician in state broadcasting.

However, the verdict does not mean that "we simply have to accept who we should live with, for we will determine Hungary," he added. "Immigration countries want to impose their logic on us, but we have not invited anyone, we do not want to become an immigration country."

The European Court of Human Rights rejected Wednesday's action against Hungary and Slovakia against a majority decision of the EU Member States from 2015. The decision provides for the introduction of a fixed number of refugees for each EU country. Among other things Hungary, however, refused to implement the decision.

In a first reaction, the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto had rejected the verdict as "outrageous". It is the outflow of a policy that "rape European law". Orban said, "So far, we have been conducting a legal struggle, now we have a political struggle." Budapest must ensure that the quotas of 2015 are revised and no other distribution mechanism for asylum seekers takes its place.
