Hesse-CDU to stand for Bundestagswahl

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017 | World News

The Hessian CDU wants to agree at a party conference in Rotenburg on the Fulda for the upcoming Bundestagswahlkampf. On this Saturday, the delegates will select the candidate list for the election on September 24th. Helge Braun (44), the 44-headed list of proposals, is headed by the Minister of State in the Federal Chancellery. The Minister of State of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Michael Meister, Odenwälder, Federal Commissioner Patricia Lips and CDU General Secretary Peter Tauber, will follow the Gießener in the seats two to four. The list includes 24 men and 20 women.

In 2013, 21 Hessian CDU members had joined the Bundestag. After the resignation of Erika Steinbach from the Unions faction, there are currently only 20. 4 of the original 21 Hessian CDU representatives entered the national list, 17 candidates won the direct mandate in 2013 in their constituency.

Seven parliamentarians are no longer candidates, so some prominent names are missing. The former Federal Minister of Family Affairs Kristina Schröder had announced a year ago not to stand again. It has belonged to Parliament since 2002. Heinz Riesenhuber (81), the former research minister and the current president of the Bundestag, does not return. He has been a deputy since 1976.
