Hesse and Baden-Württemberg: Unitymedia has to postpone frequency re-ordering

Friday, September 8th, 2017 | Gadgets

Unitymedia has to postpone the planned modification of the TV station coverage in Hesse and Baden-Württemberg. This was announced by the cable network operator on 8 September 2017. Technical reasons are the cause.

The frequency reorganization in the state of Hesse is now scheduled for 26 September 2017 for the night from 11 to 12 September. The so-called Change Day in Baden-Württemberg, so far also scheduled for September 11, will be postponed by 36 days to 17 October 2017.
Helge Buchheister told Golem.de, on request: "We are taking advantage of the time we have gained through the move to provide customers with more detailed information and help with the needs of local customers, TV technicians and retailers many customers, the broadcasting of the broadcast is not as easy as the conversion in North Rhine-Westphalia has shown. "
Cable network less powerful than imagined
Unitymedia is the first cable network operator to shut down the analog TV program. After that, the channel lists were changed to move the frequency allocation so that space is available for new HD stations and the Internet with high data rates. Thus, digital TV programs are to be moved to lower frequency ranges, where analogue television programs were previously. The Docsis channels for data transmission have been moved to a higher frequency range.
After the breakdowns on the 29th of August 2017 at the transmitter re-organization in North Rhine-Westphalia all users had to repeat the search. Private in SD quality were displayed as encrypted or were not at all to receive. The disturbance concerned RTL, Sat1, ProSieben, Vox, RTL2, cable one, Super RTL, N-TV, Prosieben Maxx and Sixx. Approximately 70,000 households were affected, roughly two percent of the Group's 3.5 million TV customers in North Rhine-Westphalia. On September 1st the second search was started.

Customers were affected by the Unitymedia network, which received the TV signal over older, poorly shielded house distribution systems or antenna cables and terminals. This is caused by electromagnetic radiation which disturbs the transmission of the TV signal in the lower frequency range at the terminals of some customers due to faulty shielding of cables or plugs.
