Hamas wants to give up power in Gaza

Sunday, September 17th, 2017 | World News

Ten years after the violent takeover of control in the Gaza Strip, Hamas has expressed its willingness to give in. The radical Islamic Palestinian organization announced early Sunday that it was prepared to surrender the control of the coastal enclave to the government of the Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas.

Hamas expressed its willingness to dissolve an administration committee for the Gaza Strip. In addition, the organization agreed with general elections, the communication said. One was prepared to make reconciliation talks with the rival Fatah under Egyptian mediation.

Hamas is following the pressure of Fatah
Fatah and Hamas had a bloody fratricidal war. So far, all attempts at reconciliation have failed. In 2014, the two largest Palestinian organizations formed a single government and announced general elections. This initiative also failed.

Recently the Abbas Fatah organization had increased the pressure on Hamas. At the request of Abbas, Israel cut short the electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip. Human rights activists warned of catastrophic conditions in the coastal strip, where around two million people live.
