Green: decision on Stream On the Telekom "schleppt"

Sunday, August 27th, 2017 | Gadgets

The Greens accuse the Federal Government of delaying the decision on the zero-rating tariff Stream On Deutsche Telekom until after the Bundestag election. This includes the Opposition Division from the answer to a small request, which is the day's level. "It will be decided" on the basis of this examination, whether or to what extent adjustments are necessary ".

Dieselbe Standard formulation as in the response to the request of the Greens had given the Federal Network Agency Golem.de already mid-May. The Telekom, various market participants, associations and authorities would be heard. A decision should only be expected after the evaluation of all statements. "This can take some time," said the spokesman in May. In addition to the market position of the companies involved, according to EU law it is also to be examined whether the users are encouraged to "use the zero-rating application or application category instead of another".
At the beginning of April 2017 the Federal Network Agency had initiated the examination. This means that the investigation now takes almost five months without an interim stage. At the beginning of April 2017 Telekom presented the free stream-on option for their mobile communications contracts. The zero rating for music and video streaming content does not count the data of the logged-in services to the booked volume. According to the group, Stream On is open to all content providers. A spokesman stressed in spring 2017 that the connection to Stream On is free of charge for the partner. It is open to Telekom customers in higher-priced tariffs.

Stream On: Obviously against EU law?
The Greens' Green Party spokesman, Konstantin von Notz, said: "The stream-on tariff clearly violates EU law – whistling the sparrows from the roofs of Brussels". Because of the foreseeable disgrace, the federal government would hide behind the examination by the Federal Network Agency until after the elections.
"In principle tariffs are desirable, which from the outset provide a sufficient amount of data at a reasonable price," said a spokesman for the Consumer Federation of German Consumer Organizations (VZBV). Zero rating offers would be more attractive, because they made expensive offers with limited data volume more attractive.
Stream On had won 200,000 customers two months after launch. At the end of June 50 content providers were counted at Stream On.
