Further dismissal wave in Turkey

Saturday, August 26th, 2017 | World News

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has again issued two emergency resolutions: 928 additional state servants were released. Three Kurdish media organizations were also closed. The intelligence service MIT is now directly under the presidency.

The measures are justified in the decrees with an alleged link to terrorist organizations or threat to national security. Other officials received their posts.

Apart from the military, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Interior, the police, the patent office as well as numerous other state institutions are also affected by the redundancies. Even 120 academics were removed from the service with immediate effect. The passports of the dismissed state servicemen, who were named again by name in the annexes to the decrees, have been declared invalid.

The Turkish secret service MIT was directly subordinated to the presidential office with the new decrees. Erdogan has been able to govern by decree since the imposition of the state of emergency following the coup attempt of July 2016. The decrees have legal force and are valid as of their publication, Parliament has only to confirm it later. The exceptional state, which has already been extended four times, is now at least until October 19, according to the current state of affairs.
