(cafetheology.org) – Actually it seemed already decided that the Formula 1 2018 would abolish the "shark fins" and the T-Wing for aesthetics reasons, so Ross Brawn still had the test drives in Barcelona Beginning of the year. But a good six months later, the situation looks quite different: the fin will probably remain. The reason is simple: The huge sails create a sponsorship area, which has become smaller this season. This is because since the Spanish Grand Prix 2017 larger starting numbers have been prescribed. These remove potential sponsors' areas, which is now to be compensated by the large area on the page. "In the next meeting of the Strategic Group, we expect the tail fin to return," says Andy Green, Force India Technical Manager. The rules should be adjusted so that the fins are allowed again. Cynics may say that the aesthetics can not be further damaged after the introduction of Halo anyway. The Force-India team has noticed at the Singapore Grand Prix 2017 that there are a large number of mini-wings – 32 in number – on the back of the fin. This has caused astonishment, since the fin should actually disappear again in 2018 and Force India is not considered a team that invests resources in unsustainable projects. But Green decides: "It is not a given money." The T-Wing, on the other hand, is to disappear as planned. The Strategie Group also wants another wing: the so-called Monkey Seat, the small wing inside the tail wing, which is mounted around the exhaust pipe. "The FIA has worried that the team will use engine programs to fuel the Monkey Seat," explains Green. "With the inflated diffusers, the Formula 1 has been around for years at the beginning of the 2010s. In order to avoid cost-intensive research, the teams unanimously agreed to remove the Monkey Seat as completely as possible.
