Expedia boss Khosrowshahi becomes new boss

Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 | Gadgets

Expedia boss Dara Khosrowshahi becomes new head of the service agent Uber. Uber reported on Tuesday evening (local time). As expected, Khosrowshahi will be the successor to the controversial company co-founder Travis Kalanick. Khosrowshahi praised his "experience, talent and vision". Co-founder Kalanick resigned in June after a series of scandals at the insistence of investors.

With a market value of 70 billion dollars, Uber is considered the most valuable start-up in the world. The investors, however, were worried about the chaotic conditions in the executive floor in the Kalanick era. Critics were criticized for inappropriate and unethical instructions, discrimination against women, sexual assaults and a legal dispute about technology for self-propelled cars with the Google mother's alphabet. In the face of the scandal, the donors are now worried about the value of their investments. Dara Khosrowshahi (48) was born in Tehran (Iran) and came to the United States as a preschooler. His family had fled before the conditions of the Iranian revolution. He is a graduate of Brown University (Rhode Island, USA). For the past twelve years, Khosrowshahi has headed the internationally active online travel company Expedia and is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Times. dpa
