The Nikon D850 is the new digital SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer, which has reached a new peak in terms of its resolution. The Kleinbildensensor allows recordings with about 45 megapixels. The rear-illuminated CMOS sensor (BSI architecture) makes photos with 8,258 x 5,505 pixels. The low-pass filter was omitted in favor of a higher resolving power. The light sensitivity can be set from ISO 32 to ISO 102,400. In the raw data mode the user has the choice between three resolution levels (45.7 as well as 25.6 and 11.4 megapixels). It can be stored on XQD or SD cards with UHS-II standard.

The housing has been sealed against dirt, dust and moisture. Similar to the Pentax K1, the D850 can also be used to illuminate numerous operating elements, which is intended to facilitate adjustment work in poor light.
Nikon has significantly upgraded the D850's autofocus and now uses the technology from the Nikon D5, which offers 153 measurement points with 99 cross-sensors. For comparison, the previous model D810 had only 51 measurement points.
The DSLR is equipped with a viewfinder with 0.75x magnification and a 3.2 inch touch screen, which achieves a resolution of 2.36 million pixels. The display can be tilted upwards and downwards to allow better image control even in unusual camera shots. There is no internal flash.

With the enclosed EN-EL15a battery, the camera reaches a continuous picture speed of seven photos per second when the autofocus is switched on. If you use the optional MB-D18 battery pack and the EN-EL18 battery, you can record up to 9 frames per second with an autofocus. The buffer is sufficient for 51 raw data or 200 JPEGs. The Akkureichweite is indicated with 1,840 recordings with the standard Akkuu and 5,140 recordings with the additional battery.
The D850 can also record videos in 4K at 30 frames per second using the entire sensor. If you want, you can only use a part of the sensor. In addition, full-HD recordings with up to 120 frames per second can be realized for slow motion. Nikon also mentioned that from interval recordings also videos in 8K resolution can be created – however, outside the camera at the computer.
Price of the Nikon D850 at street level of the Canon EOS 5DS
The high-resolution DSLR is equipped with a USB 3.0 port. The Nikon D850 is to be available from 7th September 2017 for 3,800 euros. If you want to buy more than just the housing, you can also buy a package with the Nikkor AF-S 24-120 mm 1: 4G ED VR for 4,600 euros. With a rechargeable battery and without a lens, the weight is 1,005 grams and is approximately the same as the predecessor D810. The Canon EOS 5DS, which has already been tested by Golem.de, reaches 50 megapixel resolution and has a street price of around 3,300 euros.
