Donald Trump threatens to North Korea's Nuclear Test with Nuclear Weapons

Monday, September 4th, 2017 | World News

The US has once again intensified the conflict with North Korea. President Donald Trump did not rule out the use of nuclear weapons for defense in a telephone conversation with the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe. South Korea launched a maneuver for a rocket attack in response to Pyongyang's nuclear test.

Trump told Abe again in the telephone conversation that the US would defend their own territory and their allies, using "the full range of diplomatic, conventional and nuclear opportunities," the White House said. Both top politicians had condemned North Korea's "persistent destabilizing and provocative actions", reaffirmed the "iron-hard" mutual defense commitments, and agreed to further close cooperation.

North Korea had shocked the world community on Sunday with a new nuclear armed test, the country's state television spoke of a hydrogen bomb. Trump had then declared the "soothing policy" against North Korea failed. Asking a reporter whether he was planning a militia attack on North Korea, Trump said, "We'll see."

Defense Minister James Mattis said Washington would answer any threat to its territory or its allies through North Korea with a "massive military response". The Washington government does not seek to destroy a country, especially North Korea. "But we have many options to do so," Mattis said.

Putin calls for prudent action
Russian President Vladimir Putin urged all parties to be prudent. The Kremlin demanded "not to be guided by emotions, to be calm and balanced," said Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov. A comprehensive solution could only be found with political and diplomatic means. "Up until now, it has become clear that the existing sanctions have not brought any positive results," Peskov said. "On the contrary, the situation leaves a lot to be desired."

The UN Security Council will convene a special session on Monday. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the nuclear test and spoke of a serious destabilization of security in the region. He called on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to cease such actions. The UN Security Council had only tightened the punitive measures against the government in Pyongyang in July in response to rocket tests.
