Compatibility with language assistants: Trådfri update only comes in autumn

Friday, August 11th, 2017 | Gadgets

The Swedish social media team of the furniture dealer Ikea has announced in a discussion on its Facebook site that the lighting system Trådfri is not yet compatible with the assistance systems Google Home, Amazon Echo and Homekit. Originally, the dealer himself had announced a corresponding update on the US product page.

The new communication of 10 August 2017 has been posted by Ikea both in Swedish and English. It simply states that the news is wrong with regard to an existing compatibility. In the autumn of 2017, the Trådfri system will eventually be controlled by voice via the three systems mentioned. The furniture maker does not care that the source of the original news comes from Ikea itself.

The German Facebook team was still starting from an update
The German social media team of Ikea however had however on the morning of the 11th of August 2017 on Facebook posted that it would soon give the update, which would make Trådfri compatible with the language assistants. On 10 August 2017, the team had also reported that the update was being distributed – after the Swedish team had already spoken of a false message.

Ikea Germany has confirmed on request from Golem.de but that no update will come. As posted by the Swedish social media team, all updates are due to be released in fall 2017.
