Charging stations – Tesla | News

Saturday, September 16th, 2017 | Economy

The first of Tesla's new city stations have pitched ten places in Chicago this week and eight with eight places. This came out of a blog entry of the company. The charging stations will provide less power than those established along motorways or long-haul destinations such as hotels. This means drivers have to wait 45 to 50 minutes for the charging process to complete.
With the expansion of the supercharger network, Tesla is preparing the introduction of the Model 3, the cheapest car from the manufacturer so far. Customers who have reserved the car are younger and more urban, Jon McNeill, the global sales manager of Tesla, explained last year. The starting price is 35,000 dollars.
CEO Elon Musk is focusing on more demand from the mass market in order to reach its ambitious targets for sales growth. In the coming year, he plans to build half a million vehicles, compared to almost 84,000 last year.
«Comfortable» locations
"Supercharger stations in urban areas are installed at convenient locations, including supermarkets, shopping centers and indoor centers – making it easy for customers to load the car in the time they buy groceries or do other tasks," Tesla wrote "The prices are also at the same level as our pre-existing superchargers, which is significantly cheaper than gasoline."
After Tesla initially offered access to the superchargers for free, customers who bought a car after the 15th of January had to pay for it. However, this only applies to a consumption of 400 kilowatt hours per year, or about 1000 miles (1600 kilometers).
Prices vary from state to state. A trip from Los Angeles on one side of the USA to New York on the other side would cost around 120 dollars. Tesla's existing superchargers can provide enough power for about 170 miles in a 30 minute period. The urban stations are designed in such a way that they require less space than those located on motorways, for example.
At the end of June, Tesla had 884 supercharger sites worth 236.3 million dollars worldwide, as shown by the balance sheet figures for the second quarter. The company said it was planned to continue to invest in the global network for the foreseeable future and to use a "minimal share of total investments". For the second half of this year, Tesla has projected approximately $ 2 billion in investment, after spending $ 1.5 billion in the first half of the year.
