Bundestagswahl 2017: When the Digitalsierung-Neuland becomes the Chefsache

Monday, August 28th, 2017 | Gadgets

Hardly any development will shape the future of society as strongly as the advancing digitization in the coming years. How will auto-driving cars, artificial intelligence and networking of many areas of life and products change our lives and our daily lives? This depends not only on the technical possibilities, but also on the framework conditions which the policy of the economy and the citizens sets. The Bundestag election on 24 September is therefore an opportunity to vote on the parties' digitization plans.

A look at the election programs of the Union, the SPD, the Greens, the Left, the FDP and the AfD shows clear differences in terms of topics and focus. From A as much as autonomous driving to V as data retention, there are many different aspects in the up to 250 pages long programs. But not every party finds any topic or network policy important in itself. For example, the FPD, which still has the German power protection law in 2013, is the key challenge in the next legislature. In the case of the AfD, the topic practically does not occur at all.
Three-day first, content second
With regard to the FDP, the Berlin party researcher Oskar Niedermayer welcomes the fact that she wants to use the "future topic" of digitalization "forward-looking accents". "However, it is difficult to formulate an inciting election campaign in this area," writes Niedermayer in the Tagesspiegel.

This can be seen, for example, in the electoral campaigns: "Digital first, concern second", stands next to the party of Parteichef and "Thermomix-seller" Christian Lindner. However, as a voter, it is expected that a citizen's party, which is being charged against data retention and state-robots, will object to the unconscious digitization of surveillance. True to the motto "three-day first, content second", this does not matter.
AfD is a net-political emptiness
By far the most important policy area for the Germans is still the refugee crisis. This is likely to ensure that the AfD estimated as a national conservative right-wing extremist is entering the coming Bundestag. If the NSA scandal barely influenced the election process four years ago, this is likely to apply to the network policy this year. Who chooses the AfD because of its network policy, surely also drives to Holland "because of the mountains".
The art of the parties is therefore to write as much digitalization blab in their election program that it sounds on the one hand of modernity and the future, but on the other hand leaves them all possibilities, in a future government as little as possible To be able to.
