Bundestagswahl 2017 – Prognosis: Black and yellow in the Bund possible

Saturday, September 2nd, 2017 | World News

Three weeks before the Bundestag elections, the Union and the FDP are coming to a narrow majority in a new survey. In addition to black and yellow, a large coalition and a Jamaica alliance would also be possible.

In the ZDF "Politbarometer", the Union remains clearly the strongest force. Angela Merkel, in a direct comparison, builds his lead over SPD challenger Martin Schulz. If the Bundestag election were next Sunday, CDU / CSU would remain unchanged at 39 percent and the SPD would last as much as 22 percent. The left would remain at nine percent and the Greens at eight percent. The FDP increases by one percentage point to ten percent, while the AfD drops by one point to eight percent.

After a small rapprochement in the last week's poll Chancellor Merkel also increased her lead over the SPD top candidate Schulz. A clear majority of 57 percent would rather have Merkel as a Federal Chancellor, but for Schulz only 28 percent.

In the TV duel of the two candidates on Sunday, a majority expect a draw. Of these, 46 percent of respondents are excluded. One-third (33 percent) expects Merkel to beat. Only ten percent expect Schulz to be the winner of the duel on Sunday evening broadcast live on four television channels.

Merkel is also the most popular politician
On the list of the ten most important politicians in the opinion of the interviewees, Merkel is also still ahead. On a scale of plus five to minus five, the CDU chairman comes to an average of 2.1. In second place, Federal Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) is 1.9, followed by Federal Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) with 1.4 and Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière (CDU) with 0.9.

FDP boss Christian Lindner ends up in fifth place with 0.9, while Cem Özdemir, the Greens chairman, takes the sixth place with 0.8. SPD boss Schulz is only 7th in the rankings. Closest are CSU boss Horst Seehofer with 0.6, Federal Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) with 0.3 and left-top candidate Kandra Wagenknecht with minus 0.3.

For the "Politbarometer" the research group polls questioned from Tuesday to Thursday 1309 electoral rights. All surveys have an error area. In the "Politbarometer", this is indicated by about three percentage points at a share of 40 percent and two points at ten percent.
