Assassin's Creed Origins: Investigations in the Stinking City

Thursday, August 24th, 2017 | Gadgets

A sand beach, palm trees and an imposing temple complex – actually a beautiful sight. Nevertheless, Bayek, the main figure in Assassin's Creed Origins, is not at all enthusiastic as he approaches the shore on a small papyrus boat. "The city stinks of the battlefield and the grave," he murmurs, jumping ashore. To be more precise, we jump ashore, because we steer the main character, of course, during the opening game.

As a Bayek we are on the way to the old Egyptian Memphis – one of several cities that we can explore. After a few meters, we realize what the relatively large proportion of olfactory organ of our old ego has sniffed: Right in front of us is a huge crocodile cut to the side, a little later we also see dead hippo.
Ubisoft has let us try one of the middle bets of Origins at Gamescom 2017. Bayek is 18 years old and has reached level 21. In the extensive talent tree, more than half of the active and passive skills are unlocked.

It will be exciting to see how the main character in the community arrives – we have the impression that Bayek is by far the strangest hero of the series. He is on the other hand quite brittle and locked, trying to speak in the presence of his lively wife Aya over and over again about his dreams. He is an assassin, a merciless killer, but also puts his life at risk for an unknown person – and more.

When playing, we generally had the impression that the developers of Ubisoft the player in an interesting way to make a difference in the world. The Egypt in the game has not so softly swept on us as in Hollywood films (Cleopatra) worked. Instead, the figures are recognizable in the world of their very special myths and gods, there are intrigues at the court of Pharaoh and all sorts of blood sacrifices in the name of Anubis and other gods.
All this also plays a part in the deployment, which we perform as Bayek. Immediately after arriving in Memphis, the program of our wife, Aya, will follow us, but after a short and warm greeting, it soon becomes clear that it is an unhappy love: Aya must appear in the service of the Queen.
