Airlines – Several interested parties offer for insolvenced Air Berlin News

Friday, September 15th, 2017 | Economy

Final sales decisions are scheduled to fall on 25 September – one day after the Bundestag election. The favorite is Lufthansa, which, according to its own data, made a quotation without mentioning details. The Reuters news agency learned from negotiating circles that Germany's largest airline offered a low three-digit million-euro amount for 70 to 90 of the 140 machines.
The sale of Air Berlin is considered politically delicate – not least because the airline has been able to fly more than 150 million euros with a controversial state loan since its insolvency in mid-August.
The administrator for Air Berlin, Lucas Flöther, is now taking a closer look at the offers with his team. "The current state at the end of the deadline today is 2:00 pm, that we have received several offers, which we now need to evaluate very detailed," said Air-Berlin spokesman Ralf Kunkel to Reuters TV. This would take a few days.
Time is running out
The time is pressing, because the airline makes daily several million euro loss because of decreasing bookings. This raises the question of whether taxpayers' financial assistance is sufficient until cartel authorities can give the green light and start restructuring. It is possible that the bidders must still make money. "This is what the prospective customers have to praise," it said from negotiating circles.
The low-cost airline Easyjet is also being called for. The ex-racing driver Niki Lauda had offered an offer together with the Thomas Cook subsidiary Condor. The entrepreneur Hans Rudolf Wöhrl has already submitted an offer. The Berlin logistics company Zeitfracht offers leisure cargo, the regional flight subsidiaries Walter (LGW) and Air Berlin Technik. "We are confident that we will secure around 1000 jobs for the insolvent Air Berlin Group and will be able to expand our time-keeping group into a well-established airfreight carrier," said company manager Wolfram Simon. He did not mention the offered purchase price. According to a media report, the former energy manager Utz Claassen has also submitted a "complete take over offer".
The Chinese entrepreneur Jonathan Pang from the operating company of the Parchim airport in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has now requested a one-week extension as his lawyer Helmut Naujoks said. In negotiating circles, it was said that the Friday date was not an exclusion period. Offers were also not in the submission in the coming days.
