AfD wants to place refugees in asylum centers in crisis areas

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017 | World News

The AfD top candidates Alexander Gauland and Alice Weidel said that asylum law was abolished. In addition, Gauland stated that refugees and immigrants who were heading for Europe via Libya would have lost the right to human rights.

"People who travel voluntarily through Libya to come to Europe are exposed to these human rights violations," said Alexander Gauland, an AfD top candidate. "I can not say suddenly, 'yes, if you are now in the Mediterranean, you can not go back to Libya, there are human rights violations.'"

Closure of the Mediterranean route
The co-top candidate Kate Weidel demanded the immediate closure of the Mediterranean route. The Bundesmarine had to bring refugees back to the North African coasts. Both demanded that the German right to asylum be abolished.

The top candidates reaffirmed the radical reform of the asylum and refugee policy which their party sought to block the influx of foreigners to Germany. To this end, "asylum centers" should be set up near the crisis areas. These centers would have to be negotiated with the countries concerned by a "Special Representative of the European Union". If the EU's external borders can not be shielded against migrants, Germany has to close its borders, said Weidel.

Ministry of Development to the Foreign Office
The AfD top candidates want "diplomatic pressure" and an abolition of the development aid in their present form to bring the African States to accept returned refugees. "It has to go according to German interests," said Gauland. Assistance would therefore only be granted to states which were willing to cooperate. In order to achieve these goals, the Ministry of Development should be attached to the Federal Foreign Office. "It does not always have to be America first," said Gauland in reference to US President Donald Trump.
