Share your understanding of the following…

Part III of my series on questions (and answers) to my formation application questions. These are exceedingly difficult questions to answer, since I am only given about four lines in which to put my thoughts. I suspect that these answers won’t win me any points, but they do at least come from the heart.

All of these questions are under the heading Share your understanding of the following and briefly describe the significance each area has in your life now and would have in your life as a potential priest. (You can see how wide a brush that is for “short answer” questions.)

Living a spirit of “priestly poverty” as a diocesan priest. (I add my own note for those who are unaware. A diocesan priest makes no promise or vow of poverty.)

The priest as a prayerful person.

The Holy Eucharist. (It’s interesting that the Voc. Dir. made it a point on this one to say he wasn’t looking for a theological discourse. Apparently guys get carried away here.)

The other Sacraments. (For me, the sacraments are ultimately why a man becomes a priest… everything else can be done by a layman. This is a BIG topic for such a small space.)

Sacred Scripture. (No Sola Scriptura answers allowed!)

Sacred Tradition. (If you didn’t know that when you answered the last question, this should be your hint… go back and revise.)

As before, I will allow everyone a couple of days to ruminate over these, and then I will post my own answers. I don’t know if anyone other than Reynor is reading, but c’est la vie.
