(cafetheology.org) – The MotoGP race weekend in Misano saw most of the crashes of all times within the framework of the Motorcycle World Championship: A total of 140 falls were recorded across all classes. This exceeded the previous crash record from Estoril 2010 by ten accidents. This high number of incidents in Misano is mainly due to the change of weather from Saturday to Sunday. On the day of the race it was raining heavily. More than half of all Misano crashes occurred on wet track, 26 in the warm-up units and 54 in the races. In the Moto2 and Moto3 categories, almost half of the pilots flew from their bikes. The riders of the MotoGP top class did their job better, although there were only 15 drivers completing the race in the top flight. Among the most prominent crash victims was Ducati rider Jorge Lorenzo. In comparison to the GP Sundays, however, the Misano race day (80) was not the most crashing this year, both in Le Mans (94) and in Assen (91) the top rider of the "crash" 2017WM top rider Marc Marquez (Honda) is one of the riders who fell most frequently during the 2018 MotoGP season. The Spaniard has already dropped 20 times and has thus surpassed his "best" last year by five races before the end of the season by three falls. However, Marquez came down only twice during a race this year, in Argentina and in Le Mans. The crash ranking is led by Sam Lowes (Aprilia), who is only 25th in the overall rating of the 2017 motorcycle world championship occupied. He is already on 23 accidents in the current season.
